One building, two lives: the CRCLR HUT shows how circular construction works in practice. The pavilion was built, dismantled into separate material streams and rebuilt in a new form at a different location from almost the same materials.
The Pavilion
Together with the architecture practice Beta Realities, TRIQBRIQ realised the CRCLR HUT on the site of the Urban Tech Republic in Berlin TXL. The client was Tegel Projekt GmbH, which, on behalf of the State of Berlin, is developing the former Tegel Airport site into an innovation park for urban technologies and the smart residential district Schumacher Quartier.
In September 2024, the pavilion of around 40 m² was built in just 14 days – the first timber building on the site. The load-bearing walls were made of BRIQs, complemented by reused and demountable components from other project partners, including windows and doors from deconstruction projects. The pavilion served as a venue for workshops, exhibitions and expert discussions on sustainable and circular construction.
The Real-World Test: Dismantling and Rebuilding
In autumn 2025 came the decisive real-world test: together with Züblin, the CRCLR HUT was completely dismantled and re-erected in a new form at a different location on the site.
What makes it special: thanks to the glue-free connection of the BRIQs with beech wood dowels, the solid wood building blocks could be separated cleanly by material and installed again. In total, around 98% of the materials used were reused. The rebuild took just twelve days.
In its second form, too, the CRCLR HUT is a place for workshops, exchange and expert discussions on circular construction. At the same time, it lets visitors experience first-hand what a consistently circular way of building makes possible.

Reuse Pays Off
A direct cost comparison shows that reuse also makes economic sense: while the original construction in 2024 was calculated at around €79,000, the rebuild – without purchasing new material – cost around €28,000.
A key reason: the existing components could be used again. This not only preserved valuable resources but also kept around 35 m³ of timber in the loop as a long-term CO₂ store and material asset.
The CRCLR HUT thus demonstrates the potential that lies in reusing building components. What was successfully tested here is a fundamental principle of the TRIQBRIQ system: the walls can be dismantled into separate material streams and the BRIQs reused for new building projects – even in a different arrangement.
