After just two weeks of construction, today sees the official opening of an innovative pavilion called CRCLR HUT on the grounds of the Urban Tech Republic in Berlin TXL.

This pavilion, initiated by the timber construction start-up TRIQBRIQ and the architecture firm Beta Realities, is an impressive example of the latest possibilities in the field of sustainable and circular construction.

Innovative partner network enables sustainable construction

On behalf of the state of Berlin, Tegel Projekt GmbH is developing the site of the former Tegel Airport into the Urban Tech Republic, an innovation park for urban technologies, and a smart residential quarter, the Schumacher Quartier.

With FUTR HUT, the competence center for sustainable urban construction, the construction of the future is to be rethought here at the site. It will be a place of collaboration for research, testing and production with a focus on wood and other renewable building materials. In this context, Tegel Projekt GmbH is aiming to work closely with TRIQBRIQ.

In addition to TRIQBRIQ and Beta Realities, other leading companies in the field of sustainable and circular construction are involved in the project. Concular and Alba Berlin are providing reused windows and doors from deconstruction projects and facilitating their temporary storage. Glapor and Cemwood are providing reusable floor and roof structures made from 100% recycled glass and mineralized wood chips. Lithotherm provides a reusable dry screed. Tarkett enables the use of recyclable carpet tiles. Gutex supplies sustainable wood fiber insulation boards. Thermory provides a durable real wood facade made from thermally treated wood. Ledvance bring their innovative lighting concepts to the pavilion.

The HOCHTIEF Group has been enlisted to carry out the construction work and, in close consultation with TRIQBRIQ brand ambassador Andreas R. Becher (Dipl.-Ing. M. Arch. Architekt BDA), has made a decisive contribution to the success of the project. Finally, Madaster prepared a comprehensive quantification of the sustainability and circularity factors of the CRCLR HUT.

Focus on sustainability and circularity

Quote from Maximilian Wörner, CEO TRIQBRIQ AG:
»The CRCLR HUT is an impressive demonstration of what is already possible today in the field of sustainable and circular construction. It symbolizes the future viability of our industry and the importance of partnerships.«

Quote from Marvin Bratke, Managing Director of Beta Realities:
»In the CRCLR HUT, we are proving that an innovative and collaborative planning process with the early involvement of relevant project partners leads to efficient, recyclable and, above all, innovative building concepts. Using a circular material approach, a prototype building is being created in TXL as a deconstructable material bank and scalable carbon sink.«

Quote from Gudrun Sack, Managing Director of Tegel Projekt GmbH:
»The CRCLR HUT by TRIQBRIQ clearly demonstrates how circular construction can work in practice. This makes TRIQBRIQ an ideal partner for the FUTR HUT, which is intended to send out an important signal for the building revolution here in Berlin TXL as a competence center for sustainable construction. We are delighted about the cooperation!«

The pavilion combines modern technologies and materials that meet the highest ecological standards in terms of both their production and their recyclability. TRIQBRIQ’s own recyclable timber construction system, complemented by the sustainable solutions of its partners, demonstrates how a circular construction industry can be implemented in practice. The architects responsible currently estimate that over 90% of the materials used can be dismantled and reused in new projects. An absolute novelty in an industry that is responsible for 60% of global resource consumption and 40% of CO2 emissions.

First timber building in Berlin TXL to be used for workshops on sustainable construction

The pavilion is the first timber construction on the former Tegel airport site and will remain there for three months. During this time, the initiators of CRCLR HUT want to offer workshops on circular and sustainable construction for project developers, construction companies and architectural firms.

Registration is possible via the TRIQBRIQ AG press office (see contact details top right).

Initial ideas for the subsequent use of the materials used in the CRCLR HUT already exist. However, the initiators are still looking forward to creative suggestions.

In addition, the CRCLR HUT is part of the exhibition »MATERIAL CULTURE BERLIN TXL 2024. A building for the future«, which will be on display in the Infocenter from September 7 to November 30.
