FROM THE TARMAC INTO THE FUTURE: HOW THE CRCLR HUT 2.0 MAKES THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY VISIBLE
What stood just a few weeks ago as a pavilion in Berlin has now opened a new chapter on the grounds of the Urban Tech Republic. The complete disassembly and reconstruction of the CRCLR HUT mark an important milestone for circular building in Germany. In just 12 days, we demonstrated that high-quality architecture doesn’t have to be a disposable product.
CIRCULAR LOGIC IN PRACTICE
The process at the former Tegel airport was more than an ordinary construction site. It was practical proof of how valuable materials can remain when they are planned circularly. Through mono-material separation, the pavilion could be dismantled and rebuilt at a new location – without devaluing the components. The fact that around 98% of the materials used could be reused underlines the potential of the solid wood construction system. The CRCLR HUT 2.0 now stands as a showcase for a sector that must make the shift away from linear value creation.

EFFICIENCY THROUGH REUSE
A particularly revealing aspect of this pilot project is the economic balance. While the original construction in 2024 was regularly calculated at around €79,000, the costs for the reconstruction were around €28,000. This difference results mainly from the fact that the components were preserved and reused. This shows: those who plan circularly conserve resources AND can make building projects more economical in the long term. Around 35 m³ of wood thus remain in the cycle as a CO₂ store for decades – while retaining their material value.
DAY 13: A CLEAN FINISH
“We’re done!” After twelve intensive days of assembly, the thirteenth day brought the final touches: tidying up, sweeping, last hands-on work. The final barriers were removed and the site was prepared for its next phase of use. Even though the green roof from SemperGreen and a few last details are still to come, the pavilion is already usable again. It now serves as a venue for workshops, exhibitions and knowledge transfer around circular building.

A STRONG SIGNAL TO THE INDUSTRY
The successful relocation of the CRCLR HUT is clear confirmation for us at TRIQBRIQ: circularity can be put into practice. We have shown that circular building can work quickly and economically – and that reuse opens up scalable potential. A big thank you goes to everyone involved – especially Beta Realities for concept, design and construction management, as well as Tegel Projekt GmbH for the trust and the framework that the Urban Tech Republic provides.
